I know that alot of you may be experiencing this and afraid to speak up. Trust me, You are not alone!!!
As much as we are ashamed or afraid, you need to get out of the situation!!!
Let me show you some of the effects of Domestic Violence again :
Domestic Violence leads to
- Suicidal attempts or death
- Low self-esteem
- Inability to properly take care of your kids or other dependant family members, causing the splitting of families
- It causes you to be unable to perform at work, which can lead to unemployment
- Failure to communicate with relatives, friends or coworkers
- Drug addiction/alcohol abuse
- Physical or emotional disability
- Increased risk of harm or miscarriage during pregnancy
Domestic Violence not only affects you, but it affects your kids in the long run, as children who grow up witnessing violence may become victims or/and abusers themselves. (this has been scientifically proven)
Once again! Do not! believe that you are the cause of the abuse or that you deserve to be abused!!!! Neither, do not believe that you are causing the person to react in such violent manner!
Abusers stem from traumas that would have occurred in the Abuser`s past, something to which you would have had no prior knowledge, nor control in shaping!!! But you can however stop it!!!
If you are being abused in Trinidad, you can call 999 for help.
If you have been abused and is seeking to get out, contact 800- SAVE (Domestic Hotline)
Please note that your information will remain highly confidential and anonymous. So do not worry about people finding out or discriminating against you.

ReplyDeletethank you. I really hope it does, because people are generally afraid to speak out
DeleteExcellent blog. I believe it will raise awareness to victims and the abusers of domestic violence
DeleteThank you
DeletePersons are usually afraid to seek help because we live in a society where the victims are usually blamed. So education and sensitization is key in showing persons the support systems available as stated in this blog.

ReplyDeleteThank you. We really do hope it does
DeleteSerious topic. Domestic Violence is not only for women....There are men who are currently being abused in their relationships and refuse to strike back at the abuser who in this case is the woman. One such case in question;when asked why he doesn't strike back and seek assistance from the law, the abused man responded that it is not in his nature to hit a woman. He noted that he did seek out assistance to rid the home of his wife, who has been abusing him for as long as he can remember. When he seek assistance from authorities they laughed and mocked him. Resulting in the many years he stood by and took the abuse. Women as well as men need help to get out of these toxic situations but what good would it do if or when individuals seek help to get out from a violent homes they are laughed at or worse mocked. I suggest that shelters are provided to persons aiding assistance to come out of these situations. Persons in authority (Police) are sensitive and compassionate to persons seeking help be it man or woman.
ReplyDeleteIts unfortunate that the members of the TTPS treat victims like this, but dont turn your back because of that. You can call the hotline and they will ensure the right help is provided. Because they are educated on the matter, they will deal with it more professionally, dont worry
DeleteMost times it's the fear that the abused puts into their victims that causes them to keep silent. Also the disappointment of talking to the TTPS or family as they are treated like charity work. Domestic abuse is real. People rather turn a blind eye to someone that try to help them. People rather ignore the reality than so something about it. The once village or community love isn't the way it used to be. We need to build trust and love again. We need to help each other. Because it could've been you that's being abused.
ReplyDeleteVery true.
